#LDSthankful4

I hope you all had a splendid Thanksgiving! I know I sure did! I am just so thankful for the love of my Heavenly Father and the opportunity I have to help others feel of that same love, especially as they come unto Christ. We celebrated Thanksgiving with Taiwanese fried chicken, sweet potato casserole, apple crisp, and bao zi. This is what I get for being ABC. One of the sisters came up with a finding idea to go around and invite people to write down what they were thankful for, take a picture, and upload it to social media with the hashtag #LDSthankful4. It was really neat seeing people take a moment to reflect and express their gratitude for various things in their life. The most common one was being thankful for family. I know how thankful I am to have the best family that loves and supports each other. I am also grateful for their understanding and accepting that I'm the golden child.

Our ward had the primary program yesterday!!! I was so so so happy! It was my first primary program in AGES! I am so grateful for the opportunity to go to primary. That is where I learned and gained my foundation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The theme was to come unto Christ. I am so grateful for the purity of their spirits. It reminds me of Christ's invitation to be as little children and come unto Him. The Gospel really is so simple and pure. A child can even understand it.

This week has been interesting. Our investigators became less interested and/or anti-ed. Basically, all of them dropped us. But that is okay! I know the Lord is preparing His children in His own timing.I know that we really need to just love and serve with all of our heart, might mind and strength. Everything else is in His hands. We've been doing lots of finding. The sentence that keeps playing in my mind is "we are sowing, daily sowing"...I now know that song from Sister Valdes!

We also had a language conference with all of the Mandarin and Korean speaking missionaries. It was neat to reflect on the great privilege I've had to be called to speak Mandarin in Sydney. It's another testament to the love Heavenly Father has for all of His children. This Gospel is for EVERYONE, regardless of race, language, nationality, culture...it's for every single person and their individual needs.
Mandarin & Korean Language Conference
I also had a T/O with Sister Luo!! that was so much fun!! We had miracles that day! We ran into a former potential investigator, taught him the restoration, and he now has more interest than before! We also stopped a LA member on the street. We started GQing her then gave her a pass along card, then she told us she's a less-active member from the Philippines and hasn't been to church since she's been to Australia (3 years...). And then...the craziest thing, Sister Luo says hi to a girl in the bathroom...turns out she went to HKIS and graduated in 2009. It was cool being able to share the Gospel with someone from HKIS. I remember only seeing very few people from school attend church as investigators. So that was really neat.

I'm excited for the Christmas season!! I like celebrating Christmas all year round to reflect on the Saviour and the great gift He is to all of us. Because of Him, we can be cleansed from sin, find the greatest peace and joy, and have eternal life. I find so much strength because of my Saviour.  We get to celebrate Him more than just at Christmas and Easter, but we glorify and celebrate Him through our thoughts, words, and actions. One frequent time we get to celebrate Him is during the Sacrament each week. The Sacrament is that time where we celebrate the birth, life, ministry, and atonement of Jesus Christ.

I know He lives and I'm so grateful for this opportunity to see others come to know that for themselves.

Love you all!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Frozen drinks in the HOT weather.
It's summer in the land down under.

Korean Food with the Elders
Happy Thanksgiving!! This year, I will be spending thanksgiving at Chinese conference again!! Yay!
And the Christmas season is starting! Shopping centres are being decorated, the Checketts' Christmas tree is up, and the Temple Christmas lights start next week!!

It's the greatest time to reflect on the blessings from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A blessing that has been on my mind all week is the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation. This includes the sealing power. I've been studying temples and eternal marriage in preparation for various lessons we've had. I am so incredibly grateful to know that my family is eternal. Families are so important to God's plan of happiness. They provide us the greatest joy and peace in this life. It's sad to see how Satan really is attacking families from all angles to destroy this beautiful plan. I know that families built on gospel teachings can have such strong relationships. We can also experience the greatest sorrows within the family, but as we are faithful and keep enduring to the end, we know we will be rewarded in the end. I had the great privilege of going to the Temple this morning. I just love the spirit that is there and the love I feel from my Heavenly Father. That love is what I feel from my own parents and the love I hope my future family can feel. It was such an overwhelming feeling that brought me to tears. I knew at that moment that this is what this plan is all about. The happiness and joy I felt then is the greatest joy I could possibly feel. I'm so incredibly grateful for the Saviour in making this plan possible.

Last week was HOT. 43 degrees...110 F for all you Americans. Bring on summer! But it was a great week!! We are finally starting to build our teaching pool and meet with investigators! It's been really good. I know that Heavenly Father is preparing his children everywhere to receive the gospel. We need to be obedient to the promptings of the spirit to find them. We were standing at the bus stop, and it was incredibly hot, I was starting to get cranky, and I was hesitant to talk to people. I kept getting the feeling to talk to the guy next to me though, and so slightly begrudgingly, I did. His name is Johnson. He didn't have any particular interest to learn, but was still willing to meet with us. He came to church on Sunday and we were super excited! It was such a blessing! We set an appointment up for yesterday with a member, but he didn't show. We were discouraged and were scared he just didn't really want to learn. Later in the evening, we received a text saying he forgot about our meeting and he wants to know when we can set up a time to teach him about the Bible! We were so excited! It was such a blessing. I know as we act on the promptings of the Spirit, we will find those who are so ready to accept the Gospel. They're all around us.

Life is good. Aus is hot. 一切好! 一切好!

Love & peace,
Sister Lew

#NotTrunky #T-4weeks

Me and Sister Yu on 11/11
Pepero Day
Pepero Day is an observance in South Korea similar to Valentine's Day, but held on November 11. The original purpose of the Pepero Day was to exchange peperos with each other in hopes of becoming taller and thinner. The current purpose is to exchange peperos to show affection for friends and loved-ones.

I know that Heavenly Father has placed me here for a very specific reason.  To help myself and Sister Yu develop Christlike attributes such as patience, charity and humility.  Actually…I can honestly say that we've had to develop all Christlike attributes that are mentioned in PMG ch 6.  As I've reflected on my recent studies, I've learned that Heavenly Father is patient with our weaknesses, therefore we must be patient with ourselves and others for our weaknesses.  I also asked myself the question, "Lord, is it I?" this week.  I've recently learned (well, finally starting to apply) this principle in my life.  I love controlling things, but I realise many things are out of my control.  The only thing I can control is myself and my attitude towards things.

This week, Sister Yu and I have seen so many miracles that have come from careful planning, diligence and obedience.  We know that all of these things, as led by the Spirit, are the key to success. Opening an area is hard. We started off with no area book, no teaching pool and an assignment to work with students who are preparing for final exams and then will return home shortly.  However, I've been able to see this as a blessing and a great opportunity to "plant seeds".  Although we are doing everything we can to invite people to come unto Christ, we are finding success in the invitation.  We have finally started to build a teaching pool!  We have 2 very good investigators, Ken and Charles.  Both of whom are being really prepared to receive the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Ken attended a baptismal service with us and really enjoyed it.

Other cool spiritual experiences:
One night in planning, we decided to thoroughly plan our travel route with specific modes of transportation in the hopes that if we pray, plan and find with faith, the Lord will provide investigators for us to teach.  AND HE DID! It was so cool!  We fasted and prayed to know how we can help the people in our area accept the Restored Gospel and Heavenly Father really heard our cries. It motivated us to just keep finding and finding and finding.  Even in the crazy rain we've been having! Although there are times when it's hard, we keep reminding ourselves that this isn't about us, but the salvation of our brothers and sisters.  I'm so grateful to have a companion who is willing to work with me to help the Lord hasten His work.

Something I've been thinking about recently are the "fruits of the first vision". I'm so grateful for the Restored Gospel in my life. It has tremendously blessed and changed my family. It's great to know that God is our Father and that He loves us. It's even greater to be able to feel His love in our lives. It's such a blessing to know that we have a Saviour, to help us overcome not only sin, but trial and temptation. He's there to give us that extra strength to keep us going 'til the very end. I love this gospel with all of my heart and am soooo happy I get to share it with the students of Macquarie Uni :)

Anyways, that's about it.  I love Australia.  I love the people, the ward, the mission, the missionaries, the weather and absolutely everything!  I'm trying to smash it out these next few weeks….it's exhausting, but I love it! :) :)

Love you Heaps!!

Fear Not, I Am With Thee

Ryde District

Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid.
I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by my righteous omnipotent hand.

This week has been quite the experience. I never thought that in my last 6 weeks in the mission I would feel as though I'm a brand new missionary. I have no idea what I'm doing, but it's really allowed me to rely on my Saviour and Heavenly Father. I know that God knows each of us personally. He knows our every need and He is answering our prayers. I've had countless prayers answered this week and it's been such a testimony building experience. I know that there is no need to fear, but it's part of the natural man. We need to constantly remind ourselves of who we are as children of a Divine Heavenly Father. God understands our weaknesses, and he is patient with us. We just have to be willing to obey HIs words.

Sister Yu and I have been finding all week. Our assignment is to work with the YSA and find uni students. This week and next week are finals time...so we haven't had much success with new investigators because they're all studying and apparently have no time. (THERE IS ALWAYS TIME. BEING TOO BUSY IS NOT AN EXCUSE, ESPECIALLY IN THE GOSPEL). But we obviously understand. We've met some really keen people though! We're keeping in contact with them until after finals and we can meet with them.

I love living in Eastwood. It's China-town on one side and Korea-town on the other. I feel like I'm in the Wan Chai markets...It smells like it too! Char siu fan and baozi everyday! Just kidding...but I totally could if I wanted to.

Greenwich ward is awesome! Our first Sunday there was really good. I love the members, and I already know a few of them, especially the YSA! So I'm super stoked to work with them. There's a very special spirit in that ward. The members are really strong, so it'll be good. We sustained our new WML on Sunday, so he's starting out with us! 7/12 missionaries are new to the ward...yes, we have 12 missionaries. Just like the City! The boundaries are massive...it goes from North Sydney to Carlingford

I love Sister Yu!

What else...
I absolutely LOVE Sister Yu! It's fun finally being companions, not just roommates! She is such a hard worker and we get along great. We have so much fun together. ANNNDDD she's teaching me Cantonese! XD

Love you heaps!

Shotgun!

Wow, it's been a crazy week!! Another transfer has come and gone...

I've had such a great transfer with Sister Luo. Not only was she a great companion, but one of my best friends. I've learned how to love people for who they truly are. She has helped me feel of the love that God has for me and His children. She's helped me understand Christlike charity and humility. She is so patient with me and all of my flaws. I'm so grateful I've been able to serve with her and build the relationship we have. I love the trust we have with each other. I'm also grateful that we could serve our sisters together! She's such a great example to all of them. Very diligent and hard working, but has fun while working. Although sad to leave her, I'm excited because I know it's not the end for us. We've had so many miracles together, and I'm grateful for the Lord's visible hand in His great work.
Loved serving with Sister Luo

                                                                      My last Transfer Day!

I left the city and am now opening Macquarie 3 with Sister Yu!! (HK power!) We serve in the Greenwich ward, which is still in the stake. (We're just in North Sydney by Macquarie Uni). I am so excited!! A little nervous, but I know the Lord will work miracles. I have a great companion (who I lived with for 5 months in Newcastle) and a great ward. And I'm not too far from the city, so I'll be able to see my city family every now and then.

Last week was just a blur. I don't remember much to be honest. We had a really cool experience with our investigator, Eva! She came to the baptism and just felt so good there. She's progressing well towards her day! Chimgee is doing well, but is full-on with work and studies, so it's been hard to meet with her. We were on tradeoffs with the Ryde and Greenwich sisters on Thursday and Friday. It's so cool to work with missionaries from China! It just goes to show how prepared the Chinese are to receive the Gospel. I know that many of our missionaries from China will be big leaders of the church in China. I was with Sister Sun on Thursday and Sister Shen on Friday. Both are such angels! I'm so grateful for this calling I have to speak Chinese and help bring the Gospel to Heavenly Father's beautiful children here.

I'm excited to work hard for these next few weeks. I know that as we are diligent and obedient, Heavenly Father will work miracles according to our faith. I know that He is preparing people to receive the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Please pray that we can figure things out quickly and really help God's children here.

Thank you for all the love and support you've given me throughout these few months. I know it has helped me so much. I know that God lives, as does His son, Jesus Christ. I know that His church has been restored to the Earth today through a living prophet. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and I invite you to treasure up the words of life in your minds continually. As you do so, you will always feel God's presence with you.

Love you all heaps!
